I'm Excited to be Back!

Dear Parents,

I am excited to be back from my maternity leave!  I enjoyed spending the day getting to know your children and am looking forward to working with them and all of you for the remainder of the school year.  I am very impressed with how well the students are doing already.  They have adjusted very well to the rules and routines in the classroom and have demonstrated great progress in many areas.  I was especially impressed with how well they listened and how well they got along with each other.

I want to say a big and special THANK YOU to Ms. Coluci and Mrs. Sullivan for all they did in my absence to make the first three months of school so successful for our students and for helping to make my transition back to school a smooth one.  I feel fortunate that Mrs. Sullivan will continue working in our classroom for the rest of the year and that Ms. Coluci will still be in our building covering for another maternity leave.  I know the students will enjoy seeing her around the school!

I look forward to meeting and connecting with all of you.  I know I missed the orientation at the beginning of the year and parent conferences more recently.  We don’t have another conference scheduled until March but I am hoping to meet all of you before then.  Please feel free to either call, email, or stop by for a visit if you have any questions, comments, concerns, or if you just want to say hi!

For now, I will quickly share a little about me.  This is my twelfth year teaching Kindergarten at Francis Wyman.  My family and I live here in Burlington.  My husband and I moved to Burlington seven years ago but have been married for 17 years.  We are originally from Northern Maine and still have a lot of family up there.  We have four children...all boys!  Sam is 9, Caleb is 5, Micah is 4, and Isaac is 3 months!  There is never a dull moment at the Duncan house!  We enjoy playing soccer and baseball, going camping and fishing, reading stories, playing games, and having movie nights.

I’m going to be honest...it certainly was hard leaving my children, especially my baby, to return to work this morning, but I am very excited to be working with your children and all of you.  I am confident we will have a great rest of the year together!

I hope you have a great weekend!

Melanie Duncan
