December 7, 2019 Newsletter

Dear Parents,

We had a great week and got a lot done, even though we had a two-hour delay and a snow day!  The students were certainly excited to be able to play outside in the snow!  Please be sure to send your child with snow pants and boots if he/she would like to play in the snow.  Students are welcome to leave a pair of snow pants and boots at school for the week or even the winter.  Please be sure to let your child know if he/she is supposed to bring them home every day.  It would also be very helpful if they could practice putting these items on and taking them off at home to make preparing for recess and dismissal a little less time-consuming.  Don’t forget to label all clothing items with your child’s name.

The students have been enjoying several gingerbread stories and gingerbread activities.  They decorated paper gingerbread cookies, made a class book, and made gingerbread glyphs that tell about themselves.  They made another class book about their Thanksgiving tables and started a “Can” book about things they can do.

We switched over our December calendar this week and the students were excited to see how close we are to our holiday vacation!  I can’t believe 2020 is right around the corner!  We only have two full weeks of school left in December.  We will continue reading and comparing more gingerbread stories.  We will also be learning a little about Hanukkah and some other holiday traditions we celebrate.  We will not be doing a Nutcracker performance like Kindergarten has done in the past, but our class will be reading the Nutcracker story this coming week.

We will also be working on an All About Me Collage this week.  If you have any pictures you can send in before then, that would be great.  Pictures can include baby/toddler pictures, family pictures, pictures of pets, home, favorite toys etc.  All pictures will be returned but may have tape or glue on them.  If you can’t get any pictures printed, feel free to email 2-3 pictures to me and I can print them off.

We finished our topic in math about comparing numbers to ten.  The students enjoyed playing the “Game of Compare” with partners.  They were also super excited to get our first “white day” during calendar.  We look at the temperature every day and add a paper link to our temperature chain.  Different colors represent different temperatures.  White is for 32 degrees and below.

We have extended the deadline for the Scholastic Book Club order.  It is a great way to order books for holiday gifts.  To ensure the books arrive by the holiday break, we will be submitting the order Monday afternoon.  If you are interested in purchasing books, please try to order by then.

Have a great weekend!
